The Stranger

He hails from within the bowers
of ruined tomorrows and broken dreams
that maligned indignant pauper
who was once destiny’s king

atop mountains he once walked
across the wide and ever ranging seas
upon the heavens he once aspired
to reach the mighty innumerable stars

alas he stumbles now
upon the flat unforgiving plains of fate
into the lowest depths of agony
his eyes downcast and full of regret

his star that once chased heavenly comets
now stuck between the barren and bereft
a lone and silent figure
cloaked within the darkness of despair

the ships have sailed
but his remained upon the sands
rudderless he can’t steer
without the stars nor can he chart a course

a prisoner of his own fear
self-doubt and unforgiving conscience
enveloped in despair and the hate
he bore for himself

burdened by memories
lost amongst the shoals
forsaken by hope
forgotten withal…
